Library Information

The Thorp Academy Learning Resource Centre (LRC)is situated in the middle of the Academy and as well as a place for reading and information books, it is also the main study area for our Sixth Form students.

We have a stock of over 18,000 items including an extensive 6th Form library of A level textbooks and a large senior fiction section for our students from Year 10 upwards to borrow.

We have 5 nook e-readers which students can use at lunchtimes to read virtual books, author articles, book reviews and recommendations.

The LRC website is updated regularly and has information about the LRC giving students a range of book related topics to look at, review sites to browse, new additions to stock and current photos of events. All LRC competitions are also posted on here.

Our book club The Millennium R.I.O.T Readers meet on a Thursday after school every fortnight. We shadow the Carnegie Awards and The North East Book Awards. Every student is welcome to join!

Our online LRC programme is which has been up and running since 2011. Students and parents can access this virtual resource by login details given to them by LRC staff. They can then browse every book we have in stock, reserve books from wherever they log in, post reviews of books they want to rave about and access a huge variety of websites and pdf documents.
