Thorp Academy celebrates GCSE results

Students at Thorp Academy, one of ten secondary Academies sponsored by Northern Education Trust, have achieved a dramatic improvement across the board with their GCSE results.

The Academy has also shown a strong improvement in the number of passes in English and Maths.The proportion of students achieving the new strong pass in English and Maths has increased by 15% from last year, rising to well above the national average. An amazing 71% of students overall achieved a pass in English and Maths, demonstrating an improvement of 10% on last year's results.Similar improvements were seen in Science, History, Geography, French and German.

There were some outstanding individual student successes. Sam Parkinson achieved 6 x grade 9, 2 x grade 8 and 2 x grade 7. Eve Clark achieved 4 x grade 9, 5 x grade 8 and 1 x A* and Lauren Wheeler achieved 3 x grade 9, 1 x grade 8 and 1 x grade 7.

Karen Hailes, Principal of Thorp Academy thanked the students and staff for their efforts and commitment, saying: "These results are the culmination of years of hard work for our students and I am both delighted and proud of their achievements. I'd like to express my thanks to staff for their continued passion for ensuring our students succeed - these results are testament to their energy and enthusiasm".
