North East Teenage Book Awards

On Monday 26th February some of our Thorp staff and 11 students met at 6pm at the Centre for Life in Newcastle to attend the North East Teenage Book Awards ceremony with over 100 other students from across the North East. The authors whose books were shortlisted were present to find out who would win the 2017 book award. Our students have been reading and reviewing the books over the last few months and we voted on our group choice and were excited to hear who had taken the prize.

The authors were seated on the stage and each spoke in turn about why they had written the books and where their inspiration for the characters and stories had come from. They also answered questions from the audience.

The award was presented to Lisa Heathfield for Paper Butterflies which is a book from the shortlist we all very much enjoyed.

After the ceremony, the students were given book tokens and were able to buy books from the Blackwells book stand and wait in the queues to have them personally signed by the shortlisted authors.

We really enjoyed attending the ceremony and our students came away with some excellent books to read.
