Super Sophie shines on national stage

SYNCHRO swimmer Sophie Robinson was in national action – and turned in one of the best performances in the country.

The Thorp Academy student, enrolled on the Elite Performer Programme, was in fine form with her duet partner Maddison, from Halifax, at the National Age Groups Championships for synchronised swimming.

Sophie had to travel down to Gloucester and it was worthwhile, knowing that the competition only takes at the end of each season and sees only those of a certain standard compete.

Representing the City of Leeds, Sophie swam both the duet and team. She just missed out on swimming solo by 0.2 points.

In the duet with Maddison they came sixth. The total is scored by a combination of figures and routine scores and their routine score was actually the third highest in the country.

Sophie said: “I’d like to thank the Elite Performance Programme at Thorp for supporting me in preparation for the competition last week. I am sure that helped me and Maddy smash that routine score.”

Sophie’s team were also fourth in the country out of the 13 competitive teams competing.
