SOPHIE HAMILTON has her sights set on even bigger goals after being crowned regional champion.

The Thorp Academy student won the Under-20s Women’s High Jump at the North Eastern County Championships.

Before that she also impressed in the Harriers Leagues representing Blaydon on the track.

Hamilton finished second in her new preferred event, the 400m hurdles, and helped the Harriers team to a second spot in the 4x400m relay. She ran the fast last leg of that in 70 seconds.

Hamilton, part of the Elite Performer Programme at Thorp, said: “I hope to continue to participate for as long as possible and keep achieving personal bests in all events.

“After each strength and conditioning session I am having at Thorp, I feel stronger and better and that has enabled me to train harder towards my goals.”
