BLAYDON Harrier Ella Olivia Murray thinks Thorp Academy’s Elite Performer Programme has helped her hit new heights already this summer.

Murray, 16, has reached a new personal best of 1.58m in recent weeks in the high jump when she has competed for her club.

The former Crookhill Primary pupil (pictured left) is one of the best first batch of students enrolled on Thorp’s new sports scholarship programme and is feeling the benefits.

She has shone in three competitions in the last few weeks by recording podium finishes.

She was first in the Under-17s Women’s High Jump in the North-East Youth Development League and also won the Northern Athletics Track & Field Senior League High Jump.

She then claimed silver at the North-East Championships in the Under-17s Women’s High Jump, as well as recording her new PB.

Murray said: “I think extra training through the EPP has paid off and helped me progress in order to achieve my new PB.”
