Ethan making progress

ETHAN BOYLE claimed gold in only his second novice judo competition.

ETHAN BOYLE claimed gold in only his second novice judo competition.

The Thorp Academy student has been enrolled on Tier 1 of the Elite Performer Programme and has ambitions to work his way up.

He has many sporting interests and judo is one, having joined the Crawcrook Club after being encouraged to try it by his school friend George Stewart.

And recently Ethan competed at South Shields Judo Club at Mortimer Community College.

Two coaches from Crawcrook were at the event, encouraging Ethan to get him in the zone for each fight and to give him good advice.

This was his second novice competition having competed in North Shields earlier in the year. Ethan had to fight against two competitors, with each fight lasting two minutes.

In the first fight Ethan managed to get his opponent on his back with an o-goshi ippon within 43 seconds. In the second match he had to work harder and won on points.

Having beaten both fighters he was awarded gold and he was delighted.
