Beach rugby brilliance

THERE were victories and tries rather than building castles when Thorp Academy showed how to play rugby on the beach.

THERE were victories and tries rather than building castles when Thorp Academy showed how to play rugby on the beach.

The ten-man Thorp squad won four of their five unbeaten matches during the County Sevens Beach tournament at Seaburn, Wearside.

Joe Wilkinson, one of seven players enrolled on the Elite Performer Programme, picked up the spirit of the RFU award along the way.

Wilkinson, Izaak Pitwood, Daniel Rodrigues, Tyler Eggleton, Charlie Taylor, Samuel Horsley, Ethan Boyle, Harry Craddock, Owen Miller and Luke Brown all played their part.

After an opening draw with St Johns when there were tries from Miller and Wilkinson, Thorp won the rest of their fixtures.

Tries from Eggleton, Taylor and Pitwood secured a win over Parkside before Rodrigues and Taylor ensured they defeated Biddick.

Horsley and Boyle’s tries overcame Oxclose and Horsley was at it again in the final match to secure a 1-0 win over Kepier.
