A TRIP north of the border was worthwhile for two Thorp Academy rowers when they returned home with medals.

Elite Performer Programme scholars Arun Philipson and Erin Temple headed to compete in the Strathclyde Regatta and impressed to claim podium finishes.

Arun, 16, won the J18 double with his partner James Smith (Talkin Tarn) and he followed that up with a second victory in the Composite Quad with Northumbria University.

There was also a credible third place for the Tyne United talent in the J18 single because the two rowers who finished ahead of him were a couple of years older.

Erin was excellent in her event. The Tyne Amateur rower finished second in the women's junior coxed quad.

The 12-year-old's achievement came just days after returning back from an enjoyable and beneficial warm weather training trip with Thorp to Torrevieja, Spain.
