National success for Sophie and Paige

SOPHIE ROBINSON is proving age is no barrier in the swimming pool.

SOPHIE ROBINSON is proving age is no barrier in the swimming pool.

The 13-year-old Thorp Academy student, enrolled on the Elite Performer Programme, was the youngest member of a team that won the National Synchronised Swimming Combo Cup.

That is the highlight of the year so far for Robinson, having formed part of a team in the age 13-18 category which also included Thorp’s Year 10 swimmer Paige Newton too.

The Combo Cup was held at the London Aquatic Centre at the Olympic Village and the team got to receive the award on the podium in the pool. It was an absolutely amazing experience in an inspiring venue.

Robinson and Newton also represented Gateshead Synchro in Warwickshire at Walsall. She swam in both the Free Team and the Combo Team and won a bronze medal in each category.
