Together We Achieve

Health and Social Care

Faculty vision statement and ethos

Health and Social Care prides itself on innovative, interesting and focussed teaching. It is our aim to produce consistently good or outstanding lessons that will engage our students allowing them to achieve their potential on their learning journey. Teachers will mark work regularly and provide detailed feedback to support improvement. Students are encouraged to develop independence and confidence through a range of tasks suited to their needs.

Ultimately we want every student to achieve in line with or better than their target grades.

Expectations and the journey to success

Health and Social Care demands focus, commitment and good attendance, the subject will cover a broad range of topics that will introduce as well as challenge all learners, including high attaining learners, by introducing them to demanding material and skills; encouraging independence and creativity. Students complete the OCR Cambridge National Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care starting in Year 9 which leads seamlessly into the OCR Cambridge Technicals Level 3 that are on offer in Year 12 and 13.

Throughout the department the teaching pedagogy of planning backwards has been used to ensure students can develop their knowledge over time and master the necessary key skills.

Homework

Homework will be set each fortnight on a designated day with a set hand in date - students will be informed of this information at the start of each academic year. This allows for good time management and an organised approach to homework which is a key aspect of the course. The content will mirror the topics that are studied and will be used to embed key information and skills that are required by the course.
